On 21 august 2024, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) published the  translations in all official EU languages of its Guidelines on funds’ names using ESG or sustainability-related terms (the “Guidelines”).

The Guidelines will take effect on November 21, 2024 (the "Application Date"), which is three months after their publication. Funds that were established before the Application Date will have a six-month transitional period, ending on May 21, 2025. Any new funds created on or after the Application Date must comply with the Guidelines immediately.

National competent authorities must inform ESMA by October 21, 2024, whether they: (i) comply with the Guidelines; (ii) do not comply but intend to comply; or (iii) do not comply and do not intend to comply.
